I watched and listened as Neil Armstrong made history with his iconic statement
——————–“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”
and becoming the first man to walk on the moon in 1969. The Space Race was instrumental for all kinds of innovations and developments—the competition bringing out our finest dreamers, thinkers and tinkers.
Fast forward almost 50 years….I recently watched the movie Hidden Figures coming back from my grandnanny trip. If you haven’t seen it yet I highly recommend watching it with your children! It will bring up potentially uncomfortable, but necessary conversations about race, prejudice, sexism–basically hate; but it is also a very inspiring film and should be held up as showing how one’s gifts cannot be denied.
Our country is still interested in SPACE & places beyond the moon…..
& so will be your kiddo!
With Melissa & Doug’s Astronaut Role Play Costume set your kidlets will be over the moon when they step into the jumpsuit, slip on the stretchy silver gloves, and top it all off with the shiny helmet! Find a big cardboard box and transform it into this spaceship with directions from instructables.com
NOTE: Rather than using spray paint for the spaceship either don’t spray it at all OR consider covering it with some colored contact paper. Also, create you can create an outer space feel by hanging fabric visuals from the ceiling, print-side down.
PROs:
●Washable
●Fits a range of ages—manufacturer states it’s intended for children 3-6 years however I’m not too sure there’d be a lot of 6 year olds that could fit into it
●Gloves, helmet & ID tag included
●This costume is appropriate for BOTH boys and girls!
●Price
CONs:
●Helmet—too flimsy
●Booties aren’t included—that would have been a natural addition
The Astronaut Dress-up Costume gets a gravity-defying stamp of approval! It is suitable for any and all missions: Striding dramatically towards the launch pad or piloting their cardboard box spaceship or an imaginary rocket to explore distant galaxies…at the other end of the house!
