Why buy? Rent the ToyChest

Toys are wonderful, magical and sometimes expensive learning tools for both kids and their parents. The right toy can expand a child’s mind while providing ample opportunities for creativity. Once outgrown, though, toys just become clutter in our already stuff ed homes. Former preschool teacher Karen Whittier feels that young kids need ample opportunity to play with hands-on toys and activities. After noticing a rise in the number of kids who were stuck behind too many screens or desks, she developed Rent the ToyChest as an easy and affordable way to help kids play more.
“Play just gives everything more chances to happen,” said Whittier. Rent the ToyChest helps provide these opportunities. The chance to try out a toy before buying it can be a lifesaver for parents who already feel closed in by all their kids’ toys. Parents also have the opportunity to provide their children with high-quality, name-brand toys that encourage social development while sparking imagination and creativity. Rent the ToyChest is a great solution for foster families or grandparents who may only need toys for a short period of time, without having to deal with the cost of purchasing toys and finding storage for them. The website lists toys by categories (not by gender) and provides age recommendations. Whittier is looking to add a special abilities section soon. Signing up is easy; simply log into the website and fill your cart with your favorite toys. Indicate how long you’d like to rent them — 2, 3, or 4 weeks. Rental prices range from $2 to $30 for some of the larger items. Rent the ToyChest is currently servicing all of King County.
