As July gives way to August you might be starting to wonder how to keep your kidlets active and engaged in PLAY—especially if you’re trying to limit electronic device use…which I applaud!
One option is to get the Summer Set of Go PLAY Activity Cards—the dual goals of the cards are to promote literacy as well as PLAY. They’re perfect for the preschool set, but I’ve known many older children than have thoroughly enjoyed doing the activities AND activities can always be amended as needed for younger kidlets.
Each Go PLAY Activity Card features:
●A fingerplay, chant/song or nursery rhyme
●A benefit telling why fingerplays, chants/songs or nursery rhymes are good for your child or how it helps your child’s development
●A photo of children playing—the set is inclusive and represents many ethnicities AND shows both boys and girls playing
·Cards by themselves can be used in developing your kiddo’s math readiness skills by sorting and classifying the photos
·Additionally, words in the fingerplay et al that rhyme are highlighted for you by color coordinating and underlining them
●A QR code that takes you to an online page where, after putting in your passcode*, you’ll find step-by-step plans for learning activities you can do at home
·These activities are paired with a children’s book—one that can be borrowed from your local library if you’d prefer not to purchase
·Activities span the developmental spectrum helping to develop your child physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially
*Passcode is emailed following following purchase
Do you have older kids…maybe some tweens you’re trying to keep active too?
This is an outline I followed before my summers were taken over by soccer!
Mondays Hiking or scavenger/treasure hunt
Tuesdays Local Park—beach for swimming or with jungle gyms for climbing
Wednesday Biking or skating & picnic
Thursday Visits to library or museums
Friday Art project or Science experience (alternating weeks)
Coming home from outings in the afternoon encourage your kids to try some different things:
●Tend to a garden
●Wash or brush out the family dog
●Write a letter to grandparents
●Draw on the sidewalk with chalk
●Practice hand-clapping chants
ALL of the play ideas and/or activities in the Go PLAY Activities Cards are hands-ons and interactive…take a look back up at the photos above–notice how the kidlets are engaged in what they’re doing and/or with other people? They’re active participants–not passively being entertained as is often the case with electronic devices….
I’ll be having more sets of Go PLAY Activity Cards coming available soon –so stayed tuned! Would love to hear how your plans are shaping up for the rest of summer…Go PLAY now and tell when you come in!
Yours in PLAY!
